American Hot Dogs with Grilled Peppers

Try this simple, quick and easy version. Toasting the bun makes all the difference.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 hot dogs
- 4 hot dog buns, sliced almost through
- 4 slices cheese (optional)
- Thin strips of red and yellow peppers
- Onion rings
- Mustard and ketchup
Method
Step 1
Toss the peppers ,onion rings and hotdogs in light olive oil.
Step 2
Slice the hot dog length-wise about 3/4 of the way through; place onto the grill with the cut-side down along with the hot dog bun. Turn frequently with tongs to prevent burning.
Step 3
Meanwhile grill the peppers and onion until lightly browned.
Step 4
Cook the bun and hot dog until golden brown; flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
Step 5
Remove the bun from the pan and spread the mustard and /or ketchup over the inside of the bun and set aside.
Step 6
Meanwhile, top the hot dog with the slice of cheese. Place a lid over the hot dog and continue cooking until the cheese has melted, about 1 minute.
Step 7
Place the hot dog in the bun to serve.
Step 8
Garnish with peppers and onions.
