- 8 oz (225g) plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 oz (55g) butter or margarine ,chilled
- 6 fl oz (175ml) buttermilk
Preheat a 425°F/220°C/Gas 7 oven.
Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a mixing bowl. Cut in the butter or margarine with a fork until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
Add the buttermilk and mix until well combined to a soft dough.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead 30 seconds.
Roll out the dough to ½ in (1cm) thickness. Use a floured 2½ in (6cm) pastry cutter to cut out rounds.
Transfer the rounds to a baking tray and bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. Serve hot.
