Ingredients
- 350g Self Raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- A pinch of table salt
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 75g margarine (room temperature)
- 125g cheddar cheese, grated
- Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 egg
- 150ml milk
Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 190°C. lightly grease the base and sides of a 900g loaf tin.
Step 2
Put the flour, baking powder, table salt, pepper and mustard powder into a mixing bowl.
Step 3
Rub the margarine into dry ingredients with tips of fingers, until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Mix in the cheddar cheese.
Step 4
Beat the egg and milk together and add to the bowl. Mix to a dough. Transfer to prepared tin and press out evenly, make a cut down the centre with a knife. Dust the loaf with Parmesan cheese if desired (optional).
Step 5
Bake for approximately 40 minutes until risen and nicely browned.
Step 6
Remove from oven, leave in the tin for 5 minutes before turning onto a wire tray to cool.
