Spooky candied apples make a fun and perfect treat for Halloween!
Ingredients
- 2 tbsps golden syrup
- 2 tbsps water
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 cup cream
- pinch salt
- 1⁄2 tsp vanilla essence
- 2-3 tsps black food colouring
- 2 tbsps butter
Method
Step 1
Line a baking sheet with baking paper. Prepare the apples: wash, dry and remove the stems. Insert sticks or straws and set aside.
Step 2
In a medium heat proof bowl, add the syrup, water and sugar.
Step 3
Microwave for 5-7 minutes until the mixture boils and turns a light amber colour.
Step 4
Stir in the cream followed by the salt, vanilla and food colouring. Mix until well combined. Stir in the butter until smooth.
Step 5
Immediately dip and coat one apple at a time. Tilt and rotate to coat completely. Hold over the bowl with the stick up, allowing excess caramel to drip off for 10-15 seconds. Flip upside down, with stick down, letting caramel set for 15-20 seconds. Transfer to prepared baking sheet and repeat with remaining apples.
Step 6
Chill for at least 30-60 minutes to completely set caramel.
