Peri Peri Prawn Skewers

This delicious recipe comes from Ainsley Hariott and is the perfect quick dish for the braai.


  • 2 red onions
  • 2 small lemons
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1⁄2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 medium hot chilli, seeded and finely chopped
  • 24 large peeled raw prawns
  • Salt and pepper


Step 1

Peel the onions- leaving the root ends intact. Cut each into 8 thin wedges through the root so they stay intact. Cut each lemon into 6 thin wedges and then each one across into 2 small chunky pieces.

Step 2

Mix the oil, sweet chilli sauce, lemon juice, garlic, red chilli and salt and pepper in a bowl. Add the prawns and onion wedges, mix well and leave to marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Step 3

Thread 3 prawns, 3 pieces of lemon and 2 onion wedges onto 8 metal skewers, alternating all the different pieces.

Step 4

Braai on a medium heat for about 2 minutes on each side – make sure you use the extra marinade to brush over the skewers while they are cooking.
