First make the dough and the sauce!
Ingredients
- 360g flour, more for rolling
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 sachet instant dry yeast
- 2 tsps salt
- 375ml water
- 2 tbsps olive oil, plus 2 tsps
- For the pizza sauce
- 2 tbsps olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 400g whole peeled tomatoes
- 50g tomato paste
- 1 tsp basil, dried
- 1 tsp oregano, dried
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Method
Step 1
Combine the flour, sugar, yeast and salt in a bowl. Then add the water and 2 tbsps of the oil and knead until the dough forms into a smooth ball. Knead for 5 minutes.
Step 2
If the dough is sticky, add flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
Step 3
Grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil, add the dough, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, about 1 hour.
Step 4
Turn the dough out into a lightly floured surface and divide it into 2 equal pieces. Cover each with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let them rest for 10 minutes before rolling them out. Roll the dough into two flat pizza bases.
Step 5
Melt the butter and heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until soft. Add the tomatoes and tomato paste and stir. Add the rest of the ingredients. Lower heat, simmer for 20 minutes.
