Ingredients
- FOR THE PATTIES
- 500g minced beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Half a cup of breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
Method
Step 1
In a bowl mix the onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, egg, breadcrumbs and minced beef, mix thoroughly using your hands or a fork.
Step 2
Add salt and pepper to taste towards the end of mixing.
Step 3
Mix the ingredients lightly but well – over mixed meat can become compacted and will result in tough burgers.
Step 4
Carefully shape the mixture into six hamburger patties, about 15mm to 20mm thick.
Step 5
Place the patties on a preheated grill (200°C) or preheated frying pan and cook for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, depending on your required doneness. If you have a meat thermometer a rare patty will be ready at 140°C, while well done will read 160°C.
